    Dr. Jeffrey P. Wilhite, O.D.

Lead Optometrist & Eye Health Advocate at Greater New Orleans Eyecare

Hello and welcome to Greater New Orleans Eyecare where our vision extends beyond the eye chart. I’m Dr. Jeff Wilhite, the co-founder and lead optometrist here. Born and raised in Knoxville, TN, my journey into the world of optometry has been driven by a deep-seated passion for eye health and an unwavering commitment to improving lives through enhanced vision.

After completing my undergraduate degree at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN, I advanced my education at The Illinois College of Optometry, where I not only received my Doctorate of Optometry but also met my wife, Dr. Tara LeBlanc. My clinical training involved some great institutions, including the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, The Illinois Eye Institute, and The VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, focusing on ocular disease and specialty contact lenses. I further specialized in pediatric eye care at the Holliman Eyecare Clinic in Kingsport, TN.

Beyond my clinical practice, I am recognized as an opinion leader in the eye care field, regularly speaking at industry events and contributing to discussions on the latest advancements in optometry. My role as a speaker for various companies in eye care allows me to stay at the forefront of technology and best practices, ensuring that my patients receive the most advanced and effective care possible.

With 12 years of experience, our mission at Greater New Orleans Eyecare is to provide a patient-first approach to eye care, blending the latest technological advancements with personalized, compassionate service. Education and empowerment form the foundation of our practice, as we strive to not only correct vision but also to educate our patients on maintaining their eye health and understanding their conditions.

My team and I invite you to experience the GNO Eyecare difference. Whether you’re seeking comprehensive eye exams, innovative treatment options, or advice on managing your vision health, we are here to support you. Join us as we work together towards a clearer, brighter future.

Benefit from Our High-Tech Equipment

Visiting the eye doctor is no longer just reading lines off of a chart with a device to one of your eyes. Between our highly accurate phoropter to the advanced imaging, you receive a current diagnosis that allows our practitioner to determine the appropriate treatment approach, whether it be corrective eyewear or continuous monitoring, or various other approaches in between.

Utilize Our Telehealth Services

You don't always have the time to schedule an appointment where you can break away from the office for an hour early to make a daytime, weekday appointment. And if you're having trouble with your vision, getting behind the wheel of a car isn't safe. These are merely some of the scenarios where telehealth could benefit a patient. That's why we're happy to announce our telehealth service office to our patients. We should note that it's covered by most health insurance providers!

Receive the Time You Deserve

A doctor's appointment should never feel like you're simply waiting in line for an item and being sent on your way. Our eye doctor believes in giving patients the time they deserve at our practice. You'll receive accurate answers to all your questions. Every appointment is customized to the patient’s situation, ensuring you get the care you need for your pressing eye health problems and guaranteeing you receive the right diagnosis.
